Where do i start with Warhammer 40k d20/rpg?
A bunch of buddies and I love to play d20 RPGs. Well i have been away for a while and it seems everyone has started on Warhammer40k while i was gone and i need to play catch up when it comes to history, lore, background, ect… Basically i want to learn all the back story to the game so i can roleplay better
In most rpg games (Dnd for example) have a set of core rulebooks that help you get started. Can someone give me a starting point, and maybe even suggest some good books after i got the basics down?
You might want to clarify what exactly the group is playing. When you talk about a 40K rpg, you could be referring to The Warhammer 40K miniature game; ie, big armies of models and combat. Presumably, however, you are referring to one of the three actual 40K rpgs, either Inquisitor, Rogue Trader, or Deathwatch. Each of these focus on different parts of the 40K universe. The core book for each includes quite a bit of background; if someone in the group has it, perhaps you could borrow it for some reading?
Beyond that, the 40K universe is quite vast, and the backstory changes pretty regularly, so its hard to keep track of. There are 40K novels, lots of information in the 40K minis game rulebooks, info in White Dwarf magazine – lots of possible sources of info.
