Why did Crusaders want to take back control of Muslim lands?
Crusaders were Christians from Europe hoping to take back control of Muslim controlled holy lands. But why did they do it?
The primary aim of the Crusades was to free the Holy Land, and in particular the Holy Christian places in Jerusalem, from Muslim occupation and control.
A Seljuk Turk takeover of the region in 1071 from the more tolerant Fatimids saw it become much harder for Christian pilgrims to get permission to visit,and things were much less safe than previously for them once they were there.
