tabletop wargame?
hey, i’m trying to create a tabletop wargame (like warhammer 40k or combat storm) using tor army men. the only problem is i cant figure out a good method for accuracy. so if you have any ideas for how i could do this please respond.
I like what long john said, you could also add in terrain affects (cover, elevation etc.). I think there should be something about the position of the target (eg. a lying down character is harder to hit [and you could offset this by making him move a shorter distance etc.]) The position of the shooter could also affect it, a lying down character will be more steady (and thus accurate) than a standing character.
How I implement all this info is to pick a number, say 7 to hit the target (on 2 D6). Then you go through things like
Pistol -1, Rifle 0, Bazooka +1
Character: Standing -1, Squatting 0, Lying +1
Target: Lying -2, Squatting 0, Standing +2
Rain -1, overcast 0, clear +1 [these can be determined at the beginning of the game]
Distance: Every 5 (inches, squares whatever) -1
Than at the end of the day you add (or subtract) those numbers to (from) your dice roll and see if you hit. It would take some tweaking and stuff but it may work.
