Can Marines disqualify you for haveing metal plates on you jaw?
I had double jaw surgery back in Aug 2009 and I have 4 plates in my face. I’m fully healed and there is no way of knowing that they are there unless you take an X-ray. I’m not limited by them in anyway, and would like to have some more opinions other than my recruiters.
I am guessing you meant AUg 2008. In most cases, you have to clear a year post surgery before the military can allow you to enlist…you haven’t hit that yet, so that could part of the issue. Plates and pins can be disqualifying for most branches..while they repair the bone, it makes it harder to fix it again it more damage should occur. Talk with another recruiter. It would definitely take a waiver. All the branches are giving fewer and fewer waivers at the moment, so it will be extremely tough to get one. And, if they end up telling you that there is no waiver available or the plates are an automatic DQ, you may need to accept that. There will be no way to lie about them as the information is in your current health record and any dental work would reveal them…and getting caught in that kind of lie would have reprecussions.
