I really want to start Collecting Warhammer 40k Models, but i can’t decide which army to start with?
The Armies I like the look off are:
Space Marines
Chaos Space Marines
Tau Empire
Mainly because I like the power armour stuff 
I like these 3 because of there looks, but which one of these:
-Has the best individual units (Not massed)
-Can fight at range and close-up ‘fairly’ well (Doesn’t have to be the best at either)
-and Has a nice variety of units and tactics
I’m open to other army suggestions, but the races i just won’t do are:
- Orkz
- Imperial Guard
- Witch Hunters
- Daemon Hunters
So don’t bother mentioning those! :p

The question that first occurs to me is whether you’re interested in collecting the models or in playing the game. Obviously, if you’re just interested in collecting (and, presumably, painting) then you can buy whatever catches your eye or takes your fancy.
As it happens, that’s not a bad way to start collecting an army, either. Collecting a complete army is a huge commitment of time and money, whichever way you look at it. So you need to pick an army that really inspires you. Check out the models on the Games Workshop website. Look at the artwork and read some background. Work out which army really manages to flick that “ZOMG!” switch, as I like to call it.
Only then do you need to worry about tactics or army-building strategy. No one army is far-and-away The Best. After all, if it was, why would anyone buy anything else or take any other army to a tournament?
That said, the Space Marines are the best “all rounder” army, with above-average ability in combat, at range, in armour and artillery. Plus, it has a huge range of cool miniatures and masses of support. On the downside, *everyone* plays Space Marines (even me), and sometimes it’s nice to do something a bit different.
Tau are strong at range and weak up close. Even crisis suits are poor up close because of their small numbers. But on the other hand, they look cool as hell and nothing says “PWN!” like a railgun.
