Warhammer 40k spaces wolves army?
I’m just starting out with 40k what units should I get for a 2000-3000 points space wolves army?
If you’re just starting out then 2000-3000 points is a rather ambitious objective. You should be thinking more about getting a 500 point starting force and expanding that to 1000. Get to grips with the codex and how to use its various units, see where your weaknesses and tactical gaps are and get your first batch painted up.
I’d think that a Wolf Lord and some Grey Hunters would be a good starting point. From there, Long Fangs and Thunderwolves, plus a handful of Wolf Guard (in Terminator Armour or not) will be a good direction to think about. GW doesn’t make Thunderwolf models but there are a number of good independent companies now making a variety of giant wolves with armoured rider legs. I recommend the set from bitspudlo.com, which is great value, well sculpted and has decent casting.
You may also want to think about giving some of you Grey Hunters a Razorback, or putting your Long Fangs into one.
Beyond that, the skies the limit. Some would recommend Thunderwolves, Thunderwolves and yet more Thunderwolves. I prefer to see mechanized Grey Hunters and Wolf Guard, myself, and also think that Sky Claws are an under-rated unit.
