Warhammer 40k Chaos marks?
Hi there i just recently started collecting chaos space marines, now i have a set of plague marines and also a set of space marines with an icon of nurgle, i understand the special rules for this. However like on sorcerer int he codex it says as one of the options this also could have a mark? in this case do you just say it has said mark, or does it actually have to have a banner?
Whilst marks and icons of Chaos do indeed offer the same benefits, they can be displayed differently. As you have guessed, a ‘mark’ is given to an individual model, whilst icons are provided to units as a whole and must therefore be displayed by use of an icon bearer carrying a banner, icon pole or similar, in that particular unit.
Marks on individual units do not have to be displayed by a banner, but must be made obvious in some way to your fellow players. So, for example, if you’re playing two Daemon Princes – one with the mark of Nurgle, one with the Mark of Khorne, how could you show that they were different? Here are a few ideas that could be used to display the Mark of Nurgle on your sorcerer:
- A small banner / icon of Nurgle attached to the backpack
- Easily identifiable Nurgle iconography on the shoulder pad
- If you’re confident enough, convert the model so that it is clearly a follower of Nurgle – maybe lots of oozing wounds, etc?
Personally, I think the easiest way to do this is to just paint the model in the correct colours of your chosen Chaos God, and adding the right symbol somewhere on the model.
If you want some ideas on how to display a mark on your sorcerer would be to check out some of the many 40k forums on the net. My personal recommendation is the Bolter and Chainsword website (www.bolterandchainsword.com), which is very active, has boards dedicated to both Chaos Marines and Nurgle, and has lots of fellow players happy to help.
