Why are the Space Marines getting completely shafted in warhammer 40k?
Why in heaven’s name do you think they’re “getting shafted”?
I presume you’re referring to the new 5th Edition rules and codex which makes some changes to the current marines (moving Scouts to Elites, for example) and strips out the old Traits rules. Neither of these things substantially alters the effectiveness of the army (in fact, the new Elite scouts get Strength 4 shotguns as an option, which is certainly not to be sniffed at!). The new codex also follows the pattern set by the current Dark Angels and Chaos Space Marines codexes by restricting squad sizes to either 5 or 10 and by rationalizing the wargear choices somewhat. But although that’s annoying to some of us (I had 7-man squads throughout my army!), it’s balanced by the reduction in the cost of Rhinos (to 35 points!) and the provision of a bolt pistol to every marine, effectively adding +1 attack on the charge (as you get a S4 shot at your opponents in the Shooting phase before attacking – nice!).
Plus, there’s a more flexible Land Raider coming in, with lots of great customization options; the new mobile fire platforms to make Techmarines a viable choice again, and a host of new minis, units and characters to revitalize the marine army.
Personally, I can’t wait!
