Can anyone suggest a technique to reduce shine on a Warhammer 40k model?
Basically I can not afford to buy another spray to reduce shine on my model, as I am 16 years old and do not have a income and will so have to wait to July. I was wondering if anyone could suggest a cost-free technique to reduce shine on my 40K models.
Occasionally a pot of paint will just turn out shiny. I have a pot of Blood Red that always dries shiny and another that doesn’t. I keep the former for doing blood effects, but occasionally forget and curse myself for my absent mindedness.
You can find pots of acrylic matt varnish to apply by hand from a number of ranges, including Citadel Colour and Humbrol. These are only a couple of pounds: much cheaper than a spray, albeit more time-consuming to apply.
Spray-on matt varnish is, in any case, hugely variable in quality and Citadel’s own spray not only dulls models but often leaves them with a slightly grey finish.
To be honest, a slightly shiny finish on your models is only an issue if you’re a competition or professional painter. So generally speaking, I’d say not to worry about it.
