warhammer 40, how do i work out how many ups i need to wound?
ok ive only started collecting warhammer 40k models and i so far have the moving phase down and now i need the shooting .
ok i know that you have to roll for a hit …then for a wound…then they roll the save
but what i wanna no is how do you no what you have to roll to wound them (even with a different weapon e.g. missle launcher )cus i dont no its something to do with there tooughness and your weapon strength but i dont no what

Well, all weapons possess a Strength (as do all models) and all models have a Toughness. If you have a rulebook, you can look up the summary at the back and cross-check the S against the T to discover the roll you need to wound, however it’s really quite simply to work out.
If the S and T are the same then the roll you need is a 4+. For each point that the S is greater than the T, you reduce that number by 1 and vice versa.
So let’s say we have a S4 weapon hit a T4 target (like a bolter hitting a Space Marine). The score to hit is 4+ – nice and easy: all the 4s.
If we have a S3 weapon (like a lasgun) hit the T4 target, then the score to hit goes up one: 5+. If the weapon were S5 (like a heavy flamer), the score goes down one: 3+.
No weapon gets a better chance to wound than 2+ and if a weapon needs more than 6 to wound a target then the target is simply too tough to be injured.
See? Simple.
