painting tau in warhammer 40k?

Depends on how you want things to look. If you want it to look like plain, dark lenses, a single layer of scab red will do. To lighten things up a notch, a layer of red gore over that is always nice. Blood red on top of that if you desire. Highlight the lenses with a tiny spot of bone white to give one the impression of a reflective surface.
Then there’s me, I’ll make the surface ACTUALLY reflective. Of course, the usual basecoat is chaos black. Then I’ll hit the lenses, sensor clustuers and so on with Mithril Silver, and over that I’ll apply clear paints (I’m fond of Tamiya’s clear paints, Citadel’s Inks just don’t cut it for me in this role). This gives the impression of luminosity, as the reflective silver is shining through a glossy layer of clear blue, green, or whatever I happen to be using.
