A F-35 Lightning II question?
i know the f35 is strike fighter and that means it has to do more than two job but in my opinion air to air is not one of them..in terms of Armament it can carry only 4 missiles internally, and has only180 rounds for the 25 mm cannon can it carry more Armament yes but At the expense of being more detectable by radar.. so my question is this in your opinion would you fell safe in a f-35 if you were sent on a Combat air patrol/Dogfight..

The thrust and wing loading of the F-35 essentially dictate that it is not a dog fighter, but it does have stealth which means that an enemy fighter or AWACS cannot easily detect it and launch missiles against it.
On the other hand when an F-35 is operating with US or even UK/NATO AWACS it can be data linked the enemy aircraft’s location and engage it with long range missiles.
I think you have a point though, given the current increase in spending by both Russia and China, and their policies of launching multiple missiles with multiple seeker heads (Radar/IR), if F-35 lost AWACS support over enemy territory and had to tangle with present and future SU-30′s, I wouldn’t want to be in an F-35.
I have watched this program and thought, the USN must be kidding, right? From the F-14 to F-18 to this? I know the F-14 is now out dated, but the F-35 is no replacement.
And at least the F18 has two engines, so if there was a failure over water in one engine you would have a spare…
