Well you know the solution. You need to have a nice dinner with them, and be sensitive, but tell them. You BOTH need to be there for the announcement, not just your fiance. If you’re going to be part of the family, you need to step up to it and be ready for it. Do not be defensive. They will need time to take this in. Do you guys have a date set for your wedding? It might be wise to have a ball park idea of when your wedding will be. Are you guys financially independent or do you still depend on your parents? They might see this as an issue if you are still dependent on them. Just give them your side of the story, why you want to get married and that your intentions are good.
