Should I be orks or Space Marines for Warhammer 40k?
I play Warhammer 40k and I want to make a new army.
Well, look at it this way. As the book says “Individually the space marine would beat the ork, but the orks can field more troops than space marines.”
Space marines can be painted more vibrantly and is a good army for painting, but is a “noob” army. Orks have up to 30 orks in a squad while space marines can have up to 10. Orks can’t hit the broad side of a barn, but you can get up to 60 attacks in close combat. Space marines can get up to 10.
Space marines have a 3+ save for armor naturally while standard ork infantry have a 6+ save. Orks also have a special rule where if there are more than 11 orks in a squad, they count as “fearless”.
Orks can get an upgrade to a 4+save with “eavy armor”.
Space marines have about the same range in terms of weapon firing distance, but are likely to hit more.
Im more of a “reach out and touch ‘em” kind of guy so I use the Imperial Guard, can’t beat a basilisk with 120in range.

And to the guy below me, Battle wagons are great, they can load up with SOME decent weapons and count as a transport still so if it gets blowned up, the other guy doesn’t get any points.
Also, the Shokk attack gun’s strength depends on a 2d6 role and could end up Blowing up the Big Mek, hitting your own units, or launching the Big Mek into combat with the unit he was targeting.
With the Doom Legion Space Marines, the 3+ armor save counts as a 3+ invulnerable save, but I believe they cost more than other space marines.
If you plan to use orks and flank attack, you should take Snikrott, he has the ambush rule but can always choose which side to deploy from.
But… deep striking Space Marines can be useful if you have beacons on other units in your army.
I have a friend who uses Dark Angels and has homing beacons on his bikes so that as long as the drop site is in line of sight, he won’t miss. Use that with terminators, some dreadnaughts, and drop-pods and you can stir up some trouble. I tell you, that’s why I have most of my guys in reserves when I go second.
Nobs can get 3 attacks with a power fist, so a quad of 10 can get 30 power fist attacks, not as much as lightning claws for a terminator, but enough.
I can take out nearly half a squad with a well placed shot from my basilisk so definitely get under something most of the time if they have large artillery, but basilisk shots will take out everything except terminators or mega armor nobs. Tankbusta’s have a special rule called “glorhyhogs” which makes it necessary for tankbusta’s to shoot or assault any enemy vehicles within line of sight, which can be bothersome if you wantto use them to take out heavy infantry.
Anywho, you can’t beat some of the special rules the orks have, the Ramshackle rule is especially hilarious.
Space Marines are serious and it is nearly impossible to find an orginal color scheme, mine is Gore red and Ice Blue.
If you haven’y bought the Blackreach set, you should.
It has a nob squad, warboss, 3 deffkopta’s, a small boys squad for orks. 1 terminator squad, a chapter master, a dreadnaught(special edition for the set), and a space marine tactical squad.
Also, Games Workshop is Releasing a new STOMPA model,which you probably know is an Ork titan.
