Warhammer 40k fist army help?
Usually picking a character in similar games i would go with a hack and slash type character, where i just charge in and keep attacking until things die.
Alternatively i would go with something that would still be close combat but more sneaky and would just pop up in front of the enemy, attack and then retreat. So an army that has tactics similar to either of those would be perfect.
So… you want an army that specializes in close combat and that can prowl around the battle field?
Well for starters, most of the armies in WH40K have units that can do those things – but there are certain Arnie’s that are better at it:
Space Marines: the poster boys for WH40K, they’re tough as nails and can be tooled up to do pretty much any job you want. You’ll like the Assault Squad (a Fast Attack selection with jump packs, chainswords and bolt pistols) and Scout Squads (lightly armored marines who have the Infiltrate, Move Through Cover and Scout special rules and who can be given sniper rifles).
Chaos Space Marines: members of the Traitor Legions who now worship the dark gods of Chaos. Chaos Raptors (a Fast Attack option similar to the Assault Squad above), Korne Berzerkers (Troops specializing in melee combat) and Chosen Chaos Space Marines (Elites with the Infiltrate special rule) are you friends.
Orks: A massive melee army who uses sheer numbers to overwhelm their opponents; ALL orks are nasty in close combat. They also have some sneaky scout-type squads.
Tyranids: A bunch of nasty xenomorph aliens who use bio-weapons, they’re another close combat intensive army. Not sure about the sneaking though…
Eldar: They have nasty close combat units (Striking Scorpions, Howling Banshees) and some scout-type units (Rangers).
Dark Eldar: Ah, my favorite army. For melee you just can’t beat Wyches (Troops specializing in close combat) or Hellions (Fast Attack unit with skyboards and the Hit & Run and Fleet special rules). For sneaking around, Mandrakes fill the bill (Elites with the Move Through Cover, Infiltrate and Stealth special rules).
