what is The difference between close combat and assault in warhammer 40k?
Assault is the term for charging into close combat. The terms are often used interchangeably because they were interchangeable in 4th Edition, and because close combat is fought in the Assault phase. The largest form of confusion with regards to this is the +1 attack bonus for ‘Assaulting’. This means that the unit that charged that turn gains an additional attack, not that everyone gets a special extra attack for being in close combat.
