mico bubbles???
i have a 60 gallon marine tank with about 40k of live rock t5 lights, protien skimmer, etc. i have noticed that my powerhead and fliter head are blowing out small micro bubbles not all the time but at bursts? i have 1 clown, 1 tang and 1 wrasse. my salt is 1.023, ammonia is 0 nitrate is 0 nitaite is 0 ph is 8.4, but my phosphate is high about 1 and i have got a lot of hair algae. i have tried turning the water flow on my filter aswel, which had no affect.
Well as for the micro bubbles check to see if something has gotten into the impeller area of your power heads, like a small shell or something, the only way they should be making bubbles is by getting surface air from somewhere or bubbles are gathering at the base of the power head and after a while being sucked in and chopped up. Take a flash light and look into the area that your skimmer empties into and make sure the bubbles are not coming from your skimmer outflow. As for the Phosphates they are surely at the root of your hair algae problem……to remove them do some larger than normal water changes and add a phosphate reactor filled with Rowa phos, Phoslock or Phosban media. Check out Marine Depot for these Products. Some sort of phosphate reduction filter is very important in my opinion…..you will notice a difference within a few days. If you other tank mates will play nice get a sea hair to eat up that hair algae, but i would rather take away the algaes food(phosphates)and (nitrates) than feed a sea hair. Also keep your magnesium on the high side it will curb algae growth, no higher than 1500ppm though.Use Kent Tech M
