what space marines should I get?
I play warhammer 40,000. I used to play the tyranids, but I’m going to a new army of space marines. Please don;t tell me about looking at other armies and choosing one that suits you, I’ve already done that. So I have $90, and a space marine captain. What else should I get for starters?
The Battleforce might well be a good investment, but I would suggest that a better investment might be the Assault on Black Reach boxed set, if you’re prepared to do a little work.
The enclosed miniatures will expand your space marine army to the tune of one tactical squad, one terminator squad, a(nother) captain and a Dreadnought, but it will also give you a bunch of stuff that you can then break up and sell on eBay for funds that can go back into adding a second tactical squad, a drop-pod and whatever else you fancy.
I personally recommend putting a multimelta on the dreadnought and putting him in a drop pod. Then put your tac squads into Rhinos. Drop the dread into enemy lines to knock out armour and lock vital Troops units in combat whilst rushing forward your Rhinos to seize objectives with combat squads supported by a captain each, while more combat squads hang back as a reserve or to protect your own objective. In Annihilation missions, merge the squads and use the Rhinos as mobile cover.
