Warhammer 40k:What should I add to this imperial guard army?
All right so Im just starting and I bought a few pieces from my friend cheap and all I have right now is: 1 commisnar and his body guard, and one squard of shocktroopers (those really suped up guys) with a seargent. I want an army list of at least a thousand points, My main focuse is lots of ground troops, but with more lethal weapons (armor piercing), some tanks and artillery, and one juggerneat piece (either a hero or the really big walker from forge world.).
p.s. what is the characterstics of the one huge walker from forge world (attack,wounds,movement, etc.)?
RIght. First of all, I suspect that your Commissar and Bodyguard are, in fact, Ursurkar Creed and Colour Sergeant Kell (does the one have a cigar and the other a big flag?) and the shocktroopers are probably Storm Troopers or Kasrkin (Shock Troopers is a generic name for Cadian guardsmen).
You need to get yourself a codex if you haven’t already got one, as this will give you plenty of reference images to know what miniature is what troop type, as well as all of the special rules and army list.
However, I suggest that, if you want lots of ground troops, you’re going to want a couple of infantry platoons, which will mean four to six infantry squads, plus two command squads (all available in plastic). You can reinforce these with a support squad attached to each platoon (choose lascannons for armour piercing capability).
This will fill up most of your 1000 points, but you should still have room for a couple of tanks. The choices are enormous, but if you’re new to 40k, go for Leman Russ Battle Tanks. With a 72″ range, Str 8, AP3 Ordnance blast, they are very forgiving to the new player and make excellent space marine killers.
The “Juggernaut” piece really won’t fit in a 1000 point army and should be reserved for armies in excess of 2000 points and beyond. You can probably fit a hero or two in. You’ve already got Ursurkar Creed, from the sound of things. You could also get the very-useful Sly Marbo, or the excellent Sergeant Harker (who’s an upgrade for a veteran squad which you may have to sacrifice a tank to squeeze into your list).
Or, you could add a Valkyrie assault flyer: a beautiful (and BIG) transport and Fast Attack choice for the Imperial Guard.
The “huge walker” you’re referring to will either be a Warhound Scout Titan or a Reaver Titan. These immense models are not only insanely expensive but also require an expert level of modelling ability to build and paint and are not recommended for beginners. The rules can be found in Forge World’s own publications or, for Apocalypse battles, in Games Workshop’s own publication; Warhammer 40,000: Apocalypse. These “superheavy” vehicles have completely different rules to accommodate their massive size and firepower which space and time (and copyright laws) prevent me from recounting here. Frankly, if you’re going to blow £200-400 on a Titan, then you shouldn’t baulk at £30-50 for a book to show you the rules.
