High schooler’s car dilema?

Alright. So i’m 16 and im from NY so i get my license at 17 which is in august for me. I cannot decide what kind of car/suv i will get. I have an active lifestyle (Surfing, wakeboarding, football, lacrosse, etc.) I plan on leasing and price should be under 40k. I dont know whether i should get an SUV such as the chevy tahoe/nissan xterra/jeep wrangler/ BMW X3/ etc. or a car which i dont know if i would get a sedan or coupe/convertable such as BMW 3 series/ Ford Mustang/etc. I live in a suburban area and the car/SUV will be used to drive to/from school and to the beach during summer/warm months. However it will mostly be used to drive around the town during the weekend nights. I also plan to use this car/SUV during college which i plan to attend in a relatively warm area such as southern east coast. Any suggestions?
