Why do the US oppose other countires having nuclear weapons, but have nuclear weapons themselves?
They try to sanction other countries arguing its dangerous and etc. while they possess nuclear weapons themselves. It seems a bit hypocritical.

If we can limit other countries gaining access to nuclear arms, we can reduce the potential for nuclear war or a mistake happening, especially, if it a rogue or terrorist state like North Korea or Iran, who has gained that capability. With their known, credible threats to the world already existing (Iran threatens Israel all the time with annhilation and North Korea with South Korea), this just makes the world a whole lot more dangerous that one of those insane egomaniacs will start something that will suck us all into.
The US is the first nuclear power and if we had wanted to, we had a 5 year envelope between 1945 – 1950 when we could have taken the whole world over with impunity yet we did not do it. The fact is, someone is GOING to be the world leader in power – someone always is the world leader in power in the world – and it just so happens it is us. At least we don’t go around threatening to use it on other countries and maintain it purely for defensive purposes only, not offensive ones.
If we did not maintain a nuclear supremacy along with our allies, then rogue countries would exert their newfound freedom in filling the void or power vaccum and would use that unbridled power for criminal acts of conquest and expansion, even if half the world were exterminated by doing it.
I would rather have the US and its allies maintain global nuclear supremacy than face the VERY REAL prospect of nuclear war and global obliteration.
PS – If a nuke should be used anywhere in the world and not knowing who it came from, I think the entire world should destroy both Iran and North Korea instantly because it came from them one way or the other.
