Why is the US called Imperialist?
Empires are ruled by dictators who are there for life and leave only by force or death.
US elects the people who govern the country and we change them frequently without a shot being fired or a drop of blood being spilled.
Empires are always attacking ajacent territory to expand their area of rule and they never give control back to the people who live there.
The US has given almost everything the military captured in war back to the people. What has the US not given back? GITMO? Guam, American Samoa, or Midway Island? Wow that is a real empire.
So where is all the imperialism the US is getting accused of?
We dabbled in imperialism. Took territory from Spain and Mexico, Annexed Hawaii. To mention a few. It was very controversial at time. Gave allot up voluntarily. Gave up the Idea of being an Empire, because its short sighted and just not worth the trouble. If we were an Empire, the troops in Iraq would be German, Italian, Japanese, and Filipino conscripts under US officers. We would be paying $10 a barrel for Oil and selling to the world at $100. Usama Bin Luaden (sp) would be dead under a radioactive sheet of glass with 10 million Innocent Afghanies. Saddam Husein would be our enforcer . . .
Unfortunately our detractors use our past against us. We just have to move forward.
