Is it reasonable that 2001 Mercury Gran Marquis would need idler arm replacement after only 40 k miles?
I brought in my vehicle, which has only 40k miles on it, for NYS inspection and oil and filter change to Mercury service center. After a while service rep came out and told me I needed three other major services ; (1)transmission tail shaft seal replacement($11 parts $102 labor), (2)idler arm replacement($102 labor 113 parts) (3) alignment( $130 ). I guess the seal is possible but I think I got ripped off on the idler arm and alignment since I haven’t felt any change in steering or any unusual tire wear. Unfortunately I naively agreed to all the service which in total came to $543.
This was really a question you should have asked before getting the service done.
that is pretty costly work you got there. I just recently got an alignment on my 06 crown Victoria for only $55 bucks.
Next time shop around.
