Warhammer Question: What came before “Battle for skull pass”?

My friends tell me it was better, what did it feature? Can someone link me an archive of the box sets?

There was no strict predecessor to “BfSP”, but there was a boxed set released for each edition from 4th onwards.

4th Ed was Elves and Orcs & Goblins. 5th Ed was Lizardmen and Bretonnians (brand new armies, back then). 6th was Orcs and Empire (and a rather good set of armies). 7th, of course is the Battle for Skull Pass, with Orcs (again!) and Dwarfs.

The 6th Edition boxed armies were, indeed, very good from a veteran’s point of view. You got the full rules and two small armies of the same sort as you’d buy in the stores. But it was too complicated for new players (at whom the boxed sets are really aimed) and so 7th edition followed the 4th Edition Warhammer 40,000 path in releasing a snap-together army (that’s still pretty good, but I’ve never been a fan of Dwarfs).
