prism glasses? expensive ?
Okay i have prism glasses to correct my cross eyes. I had injury in my right eye and dont have a lens i was born with. my left eye is perfect, but since the vision differance, my right eye crosses a little bit.
My prism are 3 up/ 4 Left and 3 down/4 in right in for both eyes. If my right eye crosses why do i need prism in my left eye (good eye)? and have no power to them.
I went to Walmart and they ordered me some that were like $50 dollars.
He said they were plastic, are they suppose to be like that or what? I dont know what material they are suppose to be made of glass or plastic? I think that sounds a little to cheap? any ideas?
Many times prism will be prescribed for both eyes to minimize the difference in lens thickness and even them out cosmetically. You get the same result but better looking glasses.
As for the material, plastic lenses provide good vision, but some alternate lens materials like Hi-index or polycarbonate, can reduce some of the thickness and weight when prism is prescribed. Your lenses having base in prism will be thicker towards the bridge which can sometimes create an adjustment issue with nosepads, the other prism will make one lens thicker at the top and the other thicker at the bottom. Hopefully the optician took this into account when helping you select an appropriate frame. The cost does seem reasonable for the lenses, providing they are made accurately and aren’t unsightly for you.
No one really uses glass anymore and they would be very heavy for you to wear. There are a few die hards out there that still request glass though.
