Which warhammer fantasy army dominates in magic damage?
I know very, very little about this game.
Anyways, which army could I build that can deal excessive amount of damage consistently though magic? I want to essentially wreck the opposing army at a range, and to do it with hulking balls of fire, or something of the sorts.
When it comes to taking magic in a Warhammer army, its mainly in a ‘support’ role to help bolster your attacking combat. Also, you need to be careful coming up against armies such as the dwarfs which are extremely magi resilient.
However, there are three options that can create an extremely tough magic based army, depending on what size games you expect to pay.
The undisputed kings of magic (both gaming and background wise) are the Lizardmen. Slann Mage Priest have access to all of the Lores of Magic and can be upgraded to get even tougher. Unfortunately they can only be taken as Lord choices so you’ll need to be playing at least a 2,000point game to include them. In combat, the Lizardmen Saurus hit extremely hard and are tough to scare away and the Temple Guard are bred to protect your magic users.
Second are the High Elves. Again, their mages have access to all the usual Lores of Magic as well as the ‘High Magic’ Lore all to themselves. Characters such as the Dragon Mages of Caledor also allow you to pack a punch with a dragon steed as well. In combat, they’re not as tough as the Lizardmen Saurus or Kroxigor but have speed and talent on their side. Just watch their low toughness against big creatures.
Your third option would be to take a Chaos army (either mortal, daemon or beast) using the mark of Tzeentch. Tzeentch is the Chaos god of magic and change. His characters tend to be good warriors as well as sorcerers. In combat, Chaos Warriors are tough and have strong armour and you also have options for big monsters such as the shaggoth, giants and ogres.
My personal suggestion for an all-conquering magic based army would be the High Elves, purely because of the support you can give them around.
