Warhammer 40k 5h Ed, what’s with the Perils of the Warp change?
I notice the new system… Auto Wound, only Ward saves allowed, but must reroll successful ones once… differs from the old way. S6 auto hit, no saves possible, but still roll to wound.
Seems to me that really helps favor weaker race psykers (T3 models) at the expense of tougher race psykers.
What was the balance reason for the change?
(Messes with my DP since he went from a 2/3 chance of being wounded, to a 100% chance of being wounded but only a 25% chance of saving even w/ Tzeentch)
Actually frankly, why is it so harsh at ALL? Psyker powers just aren’t that uber for the most part, and the ones that are barely get nerfed while this gives equal chance to penalize a weaker psyker.
Just seems like if it was for game balance it’s in the wrong direction… anyone know more about the reason?
I think this is one of those questions where you’d have to ask the designers. To be honest, it hardly seems like a big deal. Statistically, it’s not a significant threat to the majority of psykers who have multiple wounds anyway. Yes, it’ll knock out the small-fry, like Imperial Guard Psykers and Warlocks, but these are hardly game-breaking events (and, if they are, you’re playing wrong).
On the other hand, the old system did pretty much the same thing (although it was tougher on T3 Eldar multi-wound psykers who suffered Instant Death), so why the change..? No idea.
However, I would suggest that you look at the new Space Marine psychic powers which indicate the start of a general psychic “power creep”.
