What’s your favorite Warhammer (fantasy) Army and Why?
I’m looking to pick up the game, I just need to pick an army. Any advice? I’ve heard some are poor for beginners (like dark elves) but any suggestions would be great!
The best yardstick to use when picking an army is to find the one that most excites your imagination.
Collecting, building and painting an army is a huge investment of money, time and effort and it you aren’t in it heart and soul, you’ll never get finished and your enthusiasm will die.
So don’t worry too much about what everyone else’s favourite is or which army is good or bad for beginners. Find the army that makes you go “Whoa! That’s cool!”. Try to avoid the “one cool model” problem (in which you fall in love with one particular model and try to build an army around it) and consider every aspect of an army before you decide on the one that really gets the imaginative juices flowing.
My favourite army is the Empire. I have an Empire army themed around the Cult of Morr, the benign god of death and bane of necromancers. With a Warrior Priest (of Morr) and black armoured Knights (of Morr), they fight in total silence, disdaining black powder and instead bringing down their unliving foes with sharp blades, arrows and the favoured magic of the Amethyst College!
