Choosing an army: WARHAMMER 40K?
I just started getting interested in playing Warhammer 40k after playing Dawn of War in my school’s Tech Club. So, I was interested in playing the tabletop game. We mainly play Winter Assault, so I am trying to choose from the armies available in that game. These are the Space Marines, Eldar, Chaos Space Marines, Orks, and Imperial Guard. I am leaning away from normal space marines, as I have heard everyone starts with them. I was also considering the Tau, or Tyranids. I still am choosing. Would Chaos Space Marines be any good to start? Anyway, just looking for some input. Thanks!
Tau are supposed to be good to start with, chaos marines are similar to marines so are still a good starter army. Marines though have just been updated with some new gear such as a cannon that can fire missiles through the ground so that they come at the enemy from beneath their feet; a landspeeder that can transport scouts, a land raider that can carry 16 marines at once and all squad sergeants are now veteran sergeants.
Cheapest way to get into it is to get the Assault on Black Reach boxed set. It has a marine force and an ork force in it plus a mini version of the new rulebook. The models are nice, though not as detailed as the ones you buy in the normal boxes which are more poseable. If you go halves with a friend then you get your starter army even cheaper.
You can always convert your space marines into chaos marines or just sell them.
