what are some good coherent metal bands that sing about historical or literary topics?
One of my favorite bands is Iron Maiden and I really like how they write about historical & military topics (“Aces High”, “Tailgunner”, “Run to the Hills”) and also literature (“Rime of the Ancient Mariner”). I know Bruce Dickinson has also done some of this in his solo work (“Silver Wings”).
I know Iced Earth and Sabaton also do this. What are some other bands that do songs like these?
P.S. I’m only interested in bands that sing coherently. Bolt Thrower has neat lyrics about military and Warhammer 40K, but I have listened to them and don’t like them because I cannot understand what they’re singing! Lyrics are useless if I can’t understand them.
