warhammer 40K space marines?
Do u have to paint space marines blue because i think that it would look silly if me and my friend both painted them the same colour and it would be hard to tell who’s is who’s apart from the fact that im a much better painter then he is
No, you don’t have to paint them blue. They’re your miniatures and you can paint them however you please. Black polka dots, yellow and red candy-stripes, completely black… whatever you want is absolutely fine.
If you buy the Space Marines codex, which contains all the rules you need for fielding a complete marine army in games of Warhammer 40,000, then you’ll find the official schemes for dozens of chapters, plus background for many of the most famous. But lots of players like to invent their own. My chapter has a black and gold scheme.
That said, there are yet more chapters that are sufficiently divergent from the run-of-the-mill space marine chapters that they have their own codexes. Black Templars, Space Wolves, Blood Angels and Dark Angels all have their own codexes. But even if you decide to use one of these codexes for your chapter, you aren’t constrained to using the official colour schemes. Purple Dark Angels, yellow Space Wolves or even blue Blood Angels are all fine.
That said, if you do do something like this, you need to make sure that any room for confusion is minimized. Painting miniatures with the Ultramarines heraldry and then fielding them with Blood Angels rules would be misleading and is discouraged.
