Tau VS Imperial Guard Warhammer 40K?
I am looking at starting an Army on 40 K, Ive played as Chaos and while i won at the games i played, there style wasnt to much to my likeing….what with them being evil and all.
So i have been looking at Tau and Imperial Guard. Originally i was dead set on tau, but Ive also been looking at Imperial Guard. I just dont know Which one to start off with. If i go with tau i know what i wish to purchase at first to get me going, But imperial guard I do not.
So my question is this, What one is better? if Imperial Guard what should i go for first (200 dollar budge for right now) What kind of styles are they, which units are better. Basically the pros and cons of both armies.
Good question. First, the new Imperial Guard codex is quite good. The Tau codex is old and weak.
The IG also have so many more choices for models than the Tau. The Tau really only have a few troops choices. The IG can have infantry squads, special weapons squads, heavy weapon squads, Ogryns, ratlings, lots of different characters, grenadiers, penal troops, and on and on.
Tanks. If you like tanks, pick IG. The Tau only have a couple vehicles, but the IG has pages of different tank choices in the codex. and even more in the Forgeworld books.
Tau are shooty. IG can be shooty, assaulty, or both. There are so many options it’s amazing. Hordes of foot sloggers is what I prefer, but the armored vehicles and flyers are tempting as well.
If you want to do well in tournaments, pick IG over Tau. Right now one of the best armys out there is a mechanized IG army, with the psyker battle squad, naval officer, astropath, and daemonhunter/mystic allies.
200 dollars is going be an issue with either army. New you probably can’t more than 1000 points. But people get bored with their Tau armies and you might pick them up real cheap on craiglist or ebay.
IG foot troops show up on ebay alot and alot cheaper than in your local game store. I once bought a set for about $.50 a pieces painted the same exact color scheme.
