Beginer Warhammer Fantasy Army Choice ?
My friend has recently started a warriors chaos (khorne) army and I would like to start an army of my own, one that can fight or support his army so which would be better for me: warriors of chaos (another god) or ogre kingdoms (dogs of war)?.
I like both armys because I’m a slow painter and prefer smaller armies.
I’m also a begginer who hates metal models but can convert quite well.
If your friend’s got a mortal Chaos army, then you have a number of possible options.
Ogre Kingdoms is probably the best bet. Cheap, easy to paint and forgiving on the beginner, Ogres will fight with, for and against pretty much anyone. In fact, there’s no “pretty much” about it.
Dark Elves are another option. With a brand new army book and a host of new models, they’re one of the best looking armies out there, although they do rather favour the experienced paintbrush to get the best out of their looks. That said, they’re points-hungry, so a fairly powerful needn’t be very large.
Undead are a solid option. At least as forgiving to the beginner, thanks to their fear-causing nature (and the general unbreakability of their standard troops), they come in two flavours – Mummy-style Tomb Kings and Dracula-style Vampire Counts. Even easier to paint than the Ogres, their main drawback is that getting the most out of the army list is harder than it looks, but the Vampire Counts have been very popular with veterans and the Tomb Kings are regular winners at Grand Tournaments.
Beyond this, you could also consider Beast of Chaos or even Daemons of Chaos. Less distinctly-different from Warriors of Chaos, they still have a good thematic element and there are some simple, quick techniques for painting both armies quickly and effectively. Chaos Daemons are very points-hungry. Beast of Chaos, meanwhile, are surprisingly hard to get the best out of, tactically.
