Army Ork Painted

Army Ork Painted
New to Warhammer 40k Need Help?

OK as the title says, I thinking about starting Warhammer 40k with some friends of mine. I have never Played so i have no idea what i’m looking at when i go to the games workshop site. I have seen some armies that look cool to me but have no idea what i need to get, honestly everything looks good! I have about a $1,000 budget so i don’t think I’ll have an issue with getting all the stuff i need just really need some idea’s on where to start, what tools and paints and such, and of course what Models i’ll need as well. I was thinking either a Tyranid or Ork army so idea’s and help with either of those would be great. Thanks in advance to all!!!!!!!!!!!

For starters, never buy direct from Games Workshop. There are several secondary stores online that will give you a 20 – 25% discount.

An example: http://www.miniaturemarket.com/games_workshop

If you are just getting into the game, then get the starter kit. The current edition is “Assault on Blackreach”. It comes with the main rulebook, dice, the weapon templates you will need to buy anyway, and about $400 worth of Orks and Space Marines, all for about $100 (before the discount).

The individual army books (Codex) come next. Grab Codex: Orks (because you are interested in them) and Codex: Space Marines (because a lot of people use them and it’s nice to know the enemy’s strengths).

Finally, get some plastic glue to keep everything together.

Then start playing. Using the two army books and the mini’s available to you from the starter kit, design a small (500 point) army list and test it out with your friends. Then swap sides. Redesign your list and try a different tactic. Decide whether your time and money is worth spending on this game. It is certainly not for everyone.

Some extra tips: Every army can shoot, and every army can hit things with sticks. The difference is whether or not they are any good at it. Most Orks carry a gun of some kind, but their chance of hitting the broad side of a barn is only about 1 in 3. An Ork’s strength is not in his gun, but in his close combat weapons. If you enjoy the close combat aspect of the game, then you may also enjoy Tyranids who are very hand-to-hand oriented.

If you find that you enjoy blasting things from afar with the Space Marines then you may enjoy continuing on with them or trying out Eldar or Tau.

I hope this helps.
