Warhammer 40k question?
I am thinking about starting a Blood Angels army and i was just wondering if i can mix Space Marines with the the Blood Angels. Like for example can i buy a Space Marine battleforce or a Space Marine tactical squad and use that to start my army?
Two ways to answer you question.
No, you can’t mix “Ultramarines” with “Blood Angels”. Meaning you need to play with one Codex – the Blood Angels codex if that is the army you choose. That means that you can’t really have “Blue Dudes” running around as Ultramarines and “Red Dudes” running around as Blood Angels. You have to pick one army and stick with it.
Having said that, YES you can buy a Space Marine (ultramarine) battleforce and convert them to Blood Angels. In fact that is really the only way to do it because Games Workshop doesn’t have different versions of the Space Marines for all the different chapters.
Meaning, GW makes all the different units and packages them by default as Ultramarines (Blue Dudes). Then, what you do is you buy that set and customize it to your own chapter, such as the Blood Angels as described in your Blood Angels Codex.
GW has created some models that are very specifically made for the Blood Angels, such as the commanders and the Blood Angels Baal Predator tank for example, but the majority of your models will probably be bought as Ultramarines and then converted to Blood Angels in your own way.
Keep in mind it is you who decides whether your dudes are Blood Angels or Ultramarines. I say the words “Blue Dudes” as that’s the standard color but you can pick your own. If you wanted to for example, you could make your Blood Angels yellow for example, but as long as you tell your opponent that your army is Blood Angels then that’s what they are. You just can’t use two different Codexes to fight in one battle at one time.
