Warhammer 40K Chaos Marines 400 point game which units should I take?
Choices are- marines, berserkers, bikers, havoks, rhino, summoned lesser daemons, terminators.
I have to take a standard HQ unit too but I have a daemon prince!
Investing a quarter of your points in a character who could be taken down in one turn might not be a great plan. Why not extract a champion from one of your squads and make him into a low-level Lord? Insert him back into the same squad as an attached independent character.
400 point battles are quick and dirty and the fight is invariably won or lost in the Assault phases, especially for marines. Skip the Havoks (too many points sunk into one unit again) and the Terminators (ditto). If you’re playing on a small board (4′x4′ or smaller) then take either the berserkers or the summoned daemons as your Assault strike force. Add two tooled-up CSM squads – with a heavy weapon in each, they can pepper-pot across the board: i.e. one stays static and fires its heavy weapons while the other moves forward. If you have the points to mount one in a Rhino for extra survivability and cover, all the better.
Finally, if you’re playing 5th Ed scenarios, include the bikers a vital assets to contest enemy objectives at the last moment. They’re also great for ploughing into an Assault that’s already under way to tip the balance in your favour.
