Help with warhammer 40k.?
I need serious help. I want to play warhammer 40k but i cant decide on a army. Money is somewhat of a problem nothing to expensive. My friend has the tau and i want to be able to destroy him. Who should i pick? P.S. I would like someone that has their own codex.
As you are focusing on cost effective armies stay away from those that are mostly made of medal (i.e. Chaos Daemons, Daemonhunters, and Witch Hunters) and are using such old codex that they sometimes struggle to keep up (i.e. Necron, Dark Eldar).
This leaves Blood Angles, Chaos Space Marines, Eldar, Imperial Guard, Orks, Space Marines, Space Wolfs, and Tyranids. If you are looking to beat the tau at their own game (shooting) you may want to try Imperial Guard as you can take a lot more tanks however you will need to neutralize his tanks quickly as they are much stronger when equipped with Hammerhead Rail Guns.
Tau fair very poorly in hand to hand combat so if you want to capitalize on this you will want to pick from Blood Angles, Orks, or Tyranids. Blood Angles have great deep striking abilities to get you in close within the first few rounds and once you survive that first round of shooting you will rip into him.
Orks allow for a large number of guys and vehicles to soak up shots before you get across the board and tear into him. Tyranids are very capable in hand to hand and have a number of units that allow for outflank (coming up behind or on the sides of his units). As you are just starting I think Tyranids are the best way to go as they are cost effective and have some nasty tricks without having to worry about all their exact inner workings to make them go off.
