Mixing Catachans and Cadians, Warhammer 40k?
Hi, I collect imperial guard and all of my guys are Cadian, my question is can i also get some catachans and other like factions of imperial guard and play with all of them?
PS. I am not new to the game, I have been collecting for 4 years now. But i was never able to find this out
It’s a slightly more complicated question than it first appears.
Basically, yes you can. If you run an army of “basic” guardsmen then you can mix and match to your heart’s content. They all count as the same armour, weapons, abilities etc. But you will need to make it clear to your opponent at the outset that a guardsman is a guardsman is a guardsman.
Alternatively, of course, you can make use of the doctrines rules for Imperial Guard to mix armour types (running Catachans as Light Infantry platoons amongst regular platoons, say). But with the new Guard codex due out in the next six months, it’s hard to say what the new rules will be. Doctrines will certainly be out, but we expect to be able to “buy” special equipment and rules for platoons.
The important thing is that we expect a whole platoon to have the same equipment and abilities. You can’t really mix Catachans and Cadians in one platoon and also give them doctrines. If, however, you take the “all guardsmen are equal” approach then mix away to your heart’s content!
