Warhammer 40k. Chaos Lord question?
I have had a lot of dispute about Chaos Lords and their marks.
when I give the lord the mark of Nurgle does he get “feel no pain”?
The write-up in the chaos lord entry in the codex, there is a part that says “a lord with the mark of Nurgle cares little about mortal pain”. But in the rules part it says nothing about whether he gets it at all.
I play a Nurgle/ Khorne army but if plague marines get it then why doesn’t the lord get “feel no pain”?
A Chaos Lord with the Mark of Nurgle gets +1 T. He does not get FNP.
There are two answers as to why this is the case. The background answer is that the Plague Marines are more than merely marines dedicated to Nurgle. These are represented by normal Chaos Space Marines with an icon of Nurgle or just regular Chaos Space Marines. Plague Marines are a step beyond this: they have entirely given up their mortal forms to become hosts to their master’s infinite benevolence and Nurgle has blessed them with so many of his creations that they really are little more than walking plague factories. Their grip on sanity was released centuries ago and they care nothing for glory or personal advancement, wishing only to spread their lord’s great works upon the galaxy at large.
A Chaos Lord, by contrast, is still very much in charge of his own mind. Whilst he may have made pacts with Nurgle to become a bearer of his mark, his form is not so completely given over to the Grandfather that he can think of nothing else. He has risen from the ranks of the Chaos Space Marines, not the Plague Marines.
If you want the rules answer, frankly, it would make the Lord waaaay to tough. Not only would he have +1 T, he’d also have his regular 5+ inv save *and* the chance to ignore any wound that should have killed him. That’s an expensive and potentially devastating combination.
